Open a public Telegram channel in a browser at t.me/channel_name and you'll see a small landing page with a Preview channel button. For some channels that button opens a live feed of recent posts. For others it simply reloads the same page and nothing appears. Here's why that happens and where a channel owner should look.
The web preview is a separate server-rendered page at:
https://t.me/s/channel_name
It is not a full web client. It's a lightweight public storefront: Telegram's servers return HTML containing the channel's most recent posts so that a link can be opened without installing the app and without logging in. That's the page the Preview channel button points to.
The important part: this is not a client setting and not something a channel owner toggles from inside the app. Whether that page exists for a given channel is decided on Telegram's side.
When the web preview isn't available, the button has nowhere to go — so the browser simply reloads the current page. There are usually a few reasons.
This is the most common cause. If a channel has been flagged by moderation — for example, because of its subject matter or user reports — Telegram may forcibly disable its public web preview. The t.me/s/... URL stops returning posts, and the Preview channel button effectively leads nowhere.
In most cases no notification is sent: the channel keeps working normally for subscribers, but its public web storefront quietly disappears.
Web previews exist only for public channels with an open address like t.me/name. If a channel is reachable only through an invite link, no preview is generated at all — that's expected behaviour, not a bug.
Telegram caches link metadata. If a channel used to render correctly and then stopped, a stale cache may be the reason. Sending the link to @WebpageBot forces a re-fetch of the preview.
Sometimes the problem is transient and related to t.me being unreachable or to failures in preview generation on Telegram's side. In those cases the preview usually comes back on its own after a while.
You'll often see the advice "just turn the web view option back on." No such option exists in Telegram's channel settings. Web preview isn't exposed to client-side controls — it's handled entirely by Telegram's servers. Looking for a toggle under channel management is a dead end.
t.me/name, not just an invite link.https://telegram.me/s/channel_name. If that's empty too, the problem isn't domain-specific.Not through the channel settings in the app. No such option exists in the interface.
No. Subscribers keep seeing posts in the app as usual. The issue only concerns the public web page at t.me/s/....
If the cause is a temporary technical issue or a cache problem, yes. If the channel is restricted by moderation, it won't return until the restriction is lifted.
Follow up and be as specific as possible: the channel address, when the preview stopped working, and exactly what you see when you click the button. That speeds up the review.
The Preview channel button points to a server-side page at t.me/s/... that doesn't exist for every channel. If it just reloads the page, the public web storefront isn't available for that channel. The most likely cause is a restriction on Telegram's side; the other possibilities are channel privacy, a stale cache, or a temporary failure. In ambiguous cases, only official support can give you a definitive answer.
